About InstallFest

InstallFest is a time when we encourage everyone to bring a computer on which to install Linux. Any distribution, any version. Several members often bring in CDs, so all you really need to do is bring in a computer. Some people bring spare monitors, keyboards, and mice as well as power cables and power strips, but we encourage everyone to bring their own, as sometimes there's still not enough to go around, even with the spares. The more experienced members are there to lend a hand with any questions which may arise.

In the past, InstallFest has been very informal. In January 2003, we organized it a bit more and everyone seemed to like it that way, so we'll do it again this time.

If you are able to help others install Linux, or are bringing hardware or Linux CDs, please add your name to the InstallFestHelpers page.

If you will be installing Linux at the InstallFest, please post to our InstallFest Forum, or send email to the MLUG mailing list, mlug-list@milwaukeelug.org. Unless you tell us otherwise, we'll assume you want help installing Linux. You don't have to sign up to come and install Linux. We only ask you to sign up so we can make sure we've got room and refreshments for everyone. But don't let that stop you from coming! EVERYONE is welcome! You can post to the InstallFest Forum without registering, but your post might not show up immediately. This is to stop random spammers, and it's nothing personal.

If you plan to bring stuff for the InstallFest, post about that in the InstallFest Forum, too, so we have an idea of what will be available. If you have other questions or general comments, post there, too.

When and Where

The 2008 InstallFest will be on September 13, 2007 at the Milwaukee County Transit System Administrative offices located at 1942 N 17th street. Detailed directions will be posted on the NextMeeting page after August's meeting. This event and all MLUG events are not sponsored by the Milwaukee County Transit System.
